The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the victory of Governor Douye Diri and Deputy Governor Lawrence Oborwahariewo in the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

In a judgment on Thursday, July 18, a three-member panel held that the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal was right in dismissing the appeals by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva.
The appellate court dismissed the appeal by Sylva and his party for lacking in merit and upheld the judgement of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which affirmed the election of Governor Diri and his deputy.
The court also awarded a cost of N500,000 each in favour of each of the respondents in the appeal by Sylva and his party.
