The Federal High Court in Owerri has granted an interim injunction in favor of Hon. Justice Theresa E. Chukwuemeka-Chikeka, the Chief Judge of Imo State, restraining the Imo State House of Assembly from summoning her.

The order, issued by Hon. Justice Chituru Joy Wigwe-Oreh on July 17th, 2024, comes in response to a motion ex parte filed by the Chief Judge, seeking to prevent the Imo State House of Assembly from compelling her appearance or response to an invitation dated July 10th, 2024.

The defendants in the case, with suit number FHC/OW/CS/35/2024, include the Attorney General of Imo State, the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, the Imo State House of Assembly itself, and the National Judicial Council.

During the hearing, K.C. Nwufo SAN, along with Stella Chidozie Esq., represented the plaintiff and moved the motion on her behalf.

The court granted the interim injunction, restraining the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd defendants from inviting, summoning, or directing the Chief Judge to appear before the Imo State House of Assembly or respond to any invitation pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction already filed in the suit.

The case has been adjourned to September 19th, 2024, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
