The High Court of Lagos State sitting at Ikeja on Thursday, October 7, 2021, reportedly criticized a lawyer for putting on a colorful face mask.

According to STEPHENLEGAL, the counsel was fully robbed with a black suit, white shirt, and his bib.

However, when he stood up to announce his appearance he was interrupted by the presiding judge, Honourable Justice L. A. F. Oluyemi who cautioned that the counsel was not supposed to use a “designer face mask”

The Court told the counsel that such designer face masks are for parties, not the court.

The counsel apologized to the court and he was allowed to proceed.

As part of a comprehensive response to the COVID-19 epidemic, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had announced mandatory wearing of face masks by anyone going out in public.

A similar policy is being implemented by almost all state governments of the country including courts.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) indicated that the major rationale for the public wearing of face masks is to prevent those who are infected but asymptomatic from spreading the virus
