In a petition titled, “FUTO chancellor election in a stalemate,” signed by Onyemobi and made available to journalists, Onyemobi said Eze was allegedly imposed by the FUTO Pro Chancellor, Dr. Emmanuel Enemuo and its Vice Chancellor, Professor Chigozie Asiabaka. According to Onyemobi, Enemuo allegedly flouted a Federal High Court order restraining the university council from continuing with the election of the seventh substantive vice chancellor. He also stated in the petition that Enemuo declared Eze the vice chancellor-designate without allowing council members to vote for three other candidates after the interview as the election process demanded. The petition also read that a duly constitution panel of investigation was set up to investigate the case but that Eze refused to appear before it. “Instead of indicting Prof. Eze for this misconduct unbecoming of a professor, the VC commissioned Prof. Eze to purchase transformers aimed at enabling FUTO join the national grid. Despite the fact that Prof. Eze bought refurbished transformers that did not last up to three months, the VC did not probe this ill-action that has kept FUTO in darkness. “There is also the controversial promotion of Prof. Asiabaka’s wife to the position of a professor after only six years experience as a lecturer which the election is also supposed to cover up,” the petition read in part. Reacting to the allegation, Prof. Eze said the matter was in court. “I cannot pre-empt the court. This is because it is subject to prejudice,” he told SUNDAY PUNCH. Also, when contacted, Enemuo declined to speak with our correspondent on the phone. “I don’t know you and I cannot talk to somebody I don’t know. Meanwhile, how did you get my number? Why should a petition be made available to you? Even if you are the Punch reporter in Imo State, I need to see you in person,” he said. Text messages sent and phone calls made to Asiabaka were not responded to. Similarly, the Public Relations Officers of the institution, Chike Ezenwa told our correspondent that the case is in court. Ezenwa said, “The matter has already gone to court. We are only waiting for the court verdict on the matter. Discussing the matter is subject to subjudice.”]]>
