The political rift between Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and members of the National Assembly from the state has reportedly deepened amid allegations that the governor is working to block the lawmakers from securing return tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who spoke anonymously, alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa had vowed to prevent the nine members of the House of Representatives and the two Senators representing Ondo State from returning to the National Assembly.

According to the source, the governor reportedly met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa last Thursday, where he allegedly complained about the lawmakers’ “unpopularity” and lack of grassroots connection. The governor was said to have sought the President’s understanding to allow for their replacement ahead of the 2027 elections.

The meeting with the President reportedly followed violent clashes during the APC ward congress in Idanre, which left four persons dead, 10 injured, and a vehicle burnt. The source claimed the governor used the opportunity to brief the President on the situation within the party and the performance of the federal lawmakers.

However, another APC chieftain dismissed the allegations, stating that Governor Aiyedatiwa had not endorsed or opposed any aspirant. The source said the governor had clarified his position in light of growing political speculation ahead of party primaries, urging party members to disregard rumours capable of causing internal divisions.

It was further gathered that members of the House of Representatives from the state had earlier met with the governor at the Government House to express their intention to seek re-election in 2027.

Reacting to the claims, the lawmaker representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency, Mr Donald Ojogo, said he was unaware of any meeting where the governor allegedly made such remarks to the President. He maintained that the lawmakers enjoy a cordial relationship with the governor and described the allegations as mere personal opinions.

The unfolding development signals intensifying political maneuvering within the Ondo APC as the 2027 elections draw closer.
