The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), through its Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE), has officially accredited 50 branches across the country as CLE service providers.

This development marks a bold shift towards decentralizing access to professional development, allowing lawyers especially young and regional practitioners to access quality CLE programs without incurring high travel or registration costs.

The accreditation empowers NBA branches to organize Continuing Professional Development (CPD)-compliant programs that now count towards members’ annual CLE points. This offers:

  • Increased access to training programs in local jurisdictions
  • Reduced costs of participation in CLE activities
  • Enhanced participation from young lawyers
  • Greater relevance of CPD topics to local legal challenges

The initiative, championed by NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, and the NBA-ICLE, reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusivity, affordability, and grassroots professional growth.

“This is a transformative moment,” said an NBA-ICLE official. “The future of legal excellence lies not just in national programs, but in localized, consistent professional learning.”

Lawyers are encouraged to engage with their local branch CLE coordinators to take advantage of the new structure. Branch leaders, on their part, have a unique opportunity to shape legal education in their regions by curating impactful training programs and hosting seasoned facilitators.

Unaccredited branches are also encouraged to seek NBA-ICLE approval, ensuring their members are not left behind in the evolving CLE landscape.
