The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun has emphasized the need to Leverage technology in Nigeria’s criminal justice system in order to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

Justice Kekere- Ekun Who stated this at the 2nd regional conference on administration of Criminal Justice themed leveraging technology in the criminal Justice system which took place in Abuja called for the need to embrace technology as a means to achieving a more an efficient and transparent legal system.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria in this summit has however noted that the application of technology can support judicial independence in the country

The research lead jurist centre for socio legal research and documentation, Professor Adedeji Adekunle SAN highlighted the role of Technology in addressing issues, enhancing transparency, and improving the overall effectiveness of the system adding that the Nigerian criminal justice system faces numerous challenges, including inefficiency, corruption, and delays.

The keynote speaker retired Justice Amina Augie who harped on the need to strengthen integrity of the Justice sector, noted the need to adequately train and sensitize judicial officers to align with modern technologies.

She added that Addressing challenges and seizing opportunities will require collaboration among stakeholders, strategic investment, and a commitment to justice sector reform.

The objective of this gathering of legal luminaries at this regional conference is to look into ways technology can strengthen the legal system.

In an interview with TheNigerialawyer, Professor Adekunle provided further insights into the reasons behind organizing the 2nd regional conference. He stated, “We’re here essentially to share experience on best practices in criminal justice administration. This concept arose from a project that the Jurist Centre is running with the support of the MacArthur Foundation on the administration of criminal justice.”
