According to a statement on Wednesday, the workshop, with the theme, “Class Action: Past Present and Future,” will hold on March 23, 2018 at the CIAPS office in Ikeja, Lagos. The centre explained that the workshop was designed to help lawyers, magistrates and judges, who are interested in the class action genre of litigation to build their capacity. The centre said it put the workshop together in collaboration with Cambridge Law Society, American Law Society, the Nigerian Bar Association and the African Bar Association. Scheduled to speak at the workshop include Roderick Farningham from England; Robert J. Gaudet, Jr., from America; and a former NBA President, Olisa Agbakoba. The Director of CIAPS, Prof. Anthony Kila, said in the statement that training in class action was chosen because “class action is one of those important areas of law to which legal experts in developing countries dangerously do not pay attention.” Agbakoba was quoted as saying that “the main purpose of this programme is to help create class action experts that can successfully manage the inevitable challenges and opportunities inherent in class action in developing countries.” The Programme will take place at CIAPS Participation Venue CIAPS 21 Adekunle Fajuyi Crescent off Adeniyi Jones Ikeja Lagos Date and Time: Friday 23rd March 2018.
