President Bola Tinubu has received commendations from senior lawyers for his directive to fully implement the Oronsaye report on rationalising government agencies.

Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), praised Tinubu for having the courage to tackle wastage in the bureaucracy through the harmonisation recommended in the 2012 report.

However, Adegboruwa advised the president to also reduce the size of his cabinet which he described as “too unwieldy.” He said charity should begin at home and Tinubu should set a good example by merging some inconsequential ministries.

Similarly, Daniel Bwala, spokesman of the Atiku/Okowa campaign, hailed Tinubu as a listening, proactive and visionary president for approving the Oronsaye report implementation. He said the reforms will position Nigeria among leading global powers.

The Oronsaye report had recommended reducing the number of statutory agencies from 263 to 161.

The Tinubu administration recently released details on how some agencies will be merged, scrapped or relocated in line with the report.
