The 2019 ADR Conference, Induction & 20th Anniversary Dinner of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) themed “ICMC at 20: A trajectory of Mediation Practice and Grassroots Conflict Transformation in Nigeria”, is scheduled to hold on the 3rd of December, 2019 in Abuja.

Dr. Agada John Elachi, the Chairman of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee of the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), will be speaking in the panel session on the Singapore Mediation Convention.

Agada Elachi is a practicing lawyer called to the Nigerian bar in 1999. He holds a doctorate degree in Public Policy and Administration specializing in Terrorism, Mediation and Peace (Walden, U.S.A), and a Masters degree in Law. He is a SEC certified capital market operator and, is actively engaged in investment advising and commercial law practice. He is the Managing Partner of Greenfield Chambers.

Agada is an ADR expert with a bias for mediation and arbitration. He holds the fellowship of several professional bodies including the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (Nigeria) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). He also holds a diploma in international commercial arbitration. He is a certified trainer in Mediation, Arbitration, and conflict resolution processes generally.

As a Mediator, he has been engaged in the resolution of a broad range of disputes such as banking and financial matters, inheritance and testamentary issues, and family mediation, just to mention a few. He is also a certified professional in managing workplace conflict.

As an Arbitrator, he is experienced in handling a wide range of issues including but not limited to defence contracts, power/energy contracts, construction contracts, oil and gas, environment preservation and management contracts, financial matters, and real estate development matters.

He is on the panel of Panel of Neutrals of several organizations. Some of these are: Global Mediation (UK), Kigali International Arbitration Centre, Abuja Chamber of Commerce Dispute Resolution Centre, Nigerian Communications Commission, Federal High Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, and several multi-door courthouses. He is actively involved in researching, writing, and speaking locally and internationally.

He acts as a resource person and consults from time to time for several organizations on Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice. Some of these organizations are the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), the Justice for All Programme (J4A) of the DFID, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Settlement House, the International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation Abuja, and Legal Defence Assistance Programme (LEDAP). He also consults for GIZ Nigeria.

He has also facilitated trainings for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He is an Ecowas and Clingendael certified trainer in Mediation and Dialogue processes. He is also an adjunct lecturer with the Nasarawa State University, Law Faculty teaching introduction to Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Negotiation, Conciliation, and Mediation, Principles and Practice of Arbitration, and International Commercial Arbitration.

Agada has keen interest in professional development and networking and as such is a member of several professional bodies including Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution and the African Arbitration Association. He believes passionately in the protection and upholding of human rights. He has served in different capacities within and without the professional circle. He was Registrar of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators. He is a life member of the governing council of ICMC.

He was a member of the Executive committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) Nigeria branch. He is also the Chairman ADR Group of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), and Chairman of the ADR Committee of the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU). He sits on the governing council and the board of several for profit and non-profit organizations, including Pillar Microfinance Bank Limited where he chairs the board of directors, and Layer3 Limited.

Agada loves to read and write. He is an avid lover of sports and a member of the IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

He is happily married to Rosemary and they have 4 lovely children.
