The Nigerian Bar Association’s Legal Education Committee, in conjunction with the NBA Institute of Continuing Legal Education, will host a webinar on Thursday, March 26, 2026, themed “Cybersecurity and Data Protection: Preparing the Next Generation of Lawyers for a Data-Driven World.”

The virtual event, scheduled for 4:00 p.m. via Zoom, will bring together a distinguished panel of legal practitioners, academics, and policy experts from Nigeria and Canada to examine the growing intersection of law, technology, data protection, and cybersecurity.

The webinar is being organised under the leadership of Professor Damilola S. Olawuyi, SAN, Chairman of the NBA Legal Education Committee, reflecting the committee’s commitment to equipping lawyers with relevant skills for a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The keynote address will be delivered by Olumide Babalola, Managing Partner of Olumide Babalola LP and Chairman of the NBA Data Protection Committee, who is expected to provide practical insights into data protection compliance and cybersecurity challenges in legal practice.

A key highlight of the event is the participation of Dr. Dayo G. Ashonibare, a Lecturer at Baze University and Managing Partner of Levite Solicitors. He will offer expert insights on bridging the gap between legal education and practice, particularly in preparing young lawyers for emerging opportunities in data protection and cybersecurity.

Other speakers include Jake Effoduh, Assistant Professor at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada, who will provide a comparative international perspective, and Fernandez Marcus, Special Assistant to the President on Justice Sector Reform and ICT/Digital and Innovative Technology, who will speak on policy and regulatory developments.

The session will be moderated by Chidera Ezenwanne, ACArb, a Senior Associate at KENNA.

The webinar comes at a time when cybersecurity and data protection have become critical concerns across sectors. With the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework, lawyers are increasingly required to advise on compliance, breach response, and data governance.

Participants will earn Continuing Professional Development points through the NBA-ICLE.
