Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has called for a full investigation into claims by former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai that the phone line of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, was tapped.

The presidential spokesperson raised concerns over the national security implications of the allegation in a post on his X account on Friday.
He said the matter should not be treated lightly and urged authorities to probe how such surveillance could have taken place and who may have been involved.
Onanuga insisted that El-Rufai should be held accountable if the claim is confirmed, stressing that no individual is above the law.
He wrote, “El-Rufai confesses to wire-tapping Nigeria’s NSA on TV. Does it mean that he and his collaborators have wire-tapping facilities?This should be thoroughly investigated and punishment meted out. El-Rufai is not too big to face the wrath of the law.”
The call followed El-Rufai’s recent media interview in which he suggested that he and others had access to conversations involving the NSA, Nuhu Ribadu.
Recall that El-Rufai recently accused Ribadu of directing the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday following his return to Nigeria.
