The Bayelsa State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation and launched a manhunt for a suspected internet fraudster following the discovery of a young woman’s lifeless body in a hotel room in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025, has thrown the local community into shock and sparked public concern over the growing trend of suspicious hotel-related deaths.

According to a source who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, the unidentified woman had checked into the hotel with a young man suspected to be a “Yahoo boy” — a slang term commonly used to describe internet fraudsters.

Shortly after lodging, the man reportedly exited the premises alone, leaving the woman behind. Hours later, the hotel manager discovered her lifeless body in the room and immediately alerted authorities at the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The lifeless body of a young girl was found in a hotel at Igbogene on Saturday, leaving the area in confusion,” the source said. “She lodged in the hotel with a suspected Yahoo boy who left immediately after. The hotel manager who found the dead body reported the incident to the police.”

Confirming the development on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Muhammad, said investigations were ongoing, though no arrests had been made as of the time of filing this report.

“We received the report yesterday (Saturday). No arrest has been made for now, but an investigation is ongoing,” Muhammad stated. “We are making serious inquiries to ensure that the culprits are brought to book. An autopsy will also be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.”
