The Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has restrained Chief George Moghalu from presenting himself as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the November 8, 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election.
The interim order, issued in Suit No. FHC/AWK/CS/226/2025, followed two ex-parte motions filed by members of the Interim State Executive Committee of the Labour Party in Anambra, led by Okoye Peter Chukwunulu and Jerry Nnubia.
Justice Nwaukwa Ukamaka granted the order restraining Moghalu, who emerged from the faction loyal to the sacked National Chairman, Julius Abure, from parading as LP’s candidate. The ruling aligns with the April 4, 2025 Supreme Court judgment that removed Abure as the party’s National Chairman and affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as head of the National Caretaker Committee. The apex court had declared any nominations or lists emanating from Abure’s leadership invalid.
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to accept or process any nomination forms or electoral documents submitted by the Abure-backed State Executive Committee in Anambra, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
In addition, the court permitted substituted service on Moghalu by pasting court processes at his residence in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, while insisting that all parties maintain the status quo until the matter is fully heard. The case has been adjourned to August 26, 2025, for further hearing.
With the ruling, the Labour Party ticket in Anambra remains legally recognised only for candidates endorsed by the Senator Nenadi Usman-led caretaker leadership, leaving Moghalu’s candidacy in limbo.
