Armed bandits in large numbers, wielding sophisticated weapons, stormed Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, under Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Sunday night and abducted no fewer than twenty-five schoolgirls.

A source, Sulaiman Abdullahi, said the attackers killed the school’s vice principal, while several unidentified bodies were seen within the school premises after the raid.

“They came in large numbers at night and began shooting sporadically before gaining access to the school,” the source said.

He added that Air Force jets were seen hovering over the area at about 8 a.m. on Monday following the incident, and the entire community was cordoned off by heavily armed security personnel.

The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the attack, stating that a tactical team had been deployed to commence rescue operations for the abducted students.

He said efforts were being intensified to ensure that none of the students in captivity is harmed. He also noted that the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, remains committed to ending the menace.

In a separate press release, the Police Command confirmed that the attack occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, when the bandits stormed the school and opened fire.

“The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel. Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted twenty-five students from their hostel to an unknown destination,” the statement said.

The police also reported that a male staff member, Hassan Makuku, was shot dead during the attack, while another staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained injuries.

The Command said additional tactical units, in collaboration with military personnel and vigilantes, had been deployed to comb nearby forests and secure the release of the abducted girls.

“We are working tirelessly to rescue the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice,” a police source said.

The Kebbi State Government had yet to issue an official statement as of press time, though more details are expected.

The attack has heightened concerns over the security of schools in the North West, with renewed calls for stronger protection for students and teachers.

The police urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing security operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the area.
