The African Women Lawyers Association Rivers State chapter on Wednesday elected new Executive to pilot the Affairs of the branch.

Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire was elected for the office of the Coordinator, Gloria Ohia, was elected as the Secretary, while Grace Adikema Ajaegbo was elected as the Assistant Coordinator.

Other Executive members are:

Urang Atawo- Ogutute Treasurer.
Ogenero Emu- Welfare Secretary.
Buduka Okoroma – Assisant secretary.

They were sworn in by His Worship, Comfort Adango Esq. While congratulating the new EXCO, she admonished them to keep the flag flying in protecting the rights of women and children and  liase to work with other civil society groups with similar objectives  to make maximum impact.

The new Coordinator, Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire Esq., in her acceptance speech stated that the planks of her administration will be on the following
1. Advocacy on protecting the rights of women and children in Rivers and Africa in general.
2. Continuing legal education of members in keeping abreast with current issues on women and children’s rights
3. Welfare of members.
4. Infrastructural development of the association.

She thanked the members for giving them the opportunity to serve and promised to build on the laudable  achievements of the outgoing executive led by Cordelia U. Eke Esq.

The Electoral Committee Chairman, Iyingi Green presented them with a certificate of return. The Annual General Meeting was also held on the same day.

AWLA is a non profit, non governmental organisation with the aim of protecting the rights and interests of women and Children in Africa.
