A father of 11 children, Lawal Hamisu, has approached a Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari in Kaduna State, asking it to compel his 27-year-old daughter, Fatima Lawal, to find a suitor and marry.

Hamisu, who appeared through his counsel, H.B. Debo, told the court on Tuesday that his daughter had completed her Higher National Diploma programme and had entertained several admirers but had failed to present any of them as a serious suitor.
He asked the court to direct Fatima to choose a suitor, bring him before the court and have the marriage conducted.
According to the father, his relationship with his children had been affected by their mother, whom he accused of turning them against him.
“She should get a suitor, present him in court, and the court should marry her off since her mother has poisoned their minds against me,” Hamisu said through his lawyer.
Responding to the application, Fatima told the court that she had no serious suitor and that none of the men described as her admirers had formally proposed marriage to her.
She maintained that there was presently no man whom she could present to the court for marriage.
The presiding judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, described the dispute as sensitive because it involved a father and his daughter.
Abdullahi said he would hold separate private discussions with both parties to understand their positions fully and offer appropriate advice before making a decision.
The judge subsequently adjourned the case until August 3, 2026, for ruling.
