The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended Yusuf Bello Aliyu, the lawmaker representing Nassarawa Local Government Area, for three months over alleged insulting remarks directed at Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The suspension was announced during the Assembly’s plenary on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, with Aliyu directed to stay away from all legislative activities throughout the three-month period.
The action followed the circulation of a video in which the lawmaker was seen holding a rabbit by its ears while making remarks which members of the Assembly considered insulting to the governor.
The Assembly had earlier indicated that Aliyu would be invited to appear before lawmakers over the contents of the video.
Following Wednesday’s plenary, Lawan Hussaini Dala said the suspended lawmaker was also required to appear before the Assembly and tender a public apology to Governor Yusuf.
The Assembly’s decision effectively bars Aliyu from participating in legislative proceedings and other activities of the House for the duration of the suspension.
