*Says “I Eat & Breathe Law”: Ready To Fight

Benin-based legal practitioner Douglas Ogbankwa has leveled serious allegations against the Edo State Ministry of Justice, accusing them of “persecution and not prosecution” in their handling of a case involving him.

In a letter dated March 7, 2024, addressed to the Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Oluwole Uzzi, and copied to the Solicitor General and Director of Public Prosecution, Ogbankwa raised ethical concerns about the ministry’s approach to the matter.

Ogbankwa, who is a lawyer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, claims that the ministry’s actions are politically motivated due to his active involvement with the party. He alleges that the same ministry, which is eager to bring charges against him, has failed to prosecute Oluwole Iyamu and Okuwole Iyamu, suggesting that the ministry has a “Director of Persecution” rather than a Director of Prosecution.

In an interview, Ogbankwa further accused the Edo State Government of being in alliance with a girl, a popular hotelier, and a politician who boasted about political connections and wealth. He claims to have credible intelligence indicating that the government has been behind the girl throughout the matter.

Ogbankwa also implicated a perpetual election loser, whose alleged grievance stems from Ogbankwa’s legal representation of Hon Valentine Asuen (DVD) Oil in a Senate tribunal case. He called upon the Edo State Government to hand over the case file to the police, arguing that the government has compromised its impartiality in the matter.

Expressing his readiness to tackle all parties involved with the law, Ogbankwa stated, “I eat and breathe Law, and the Edo State Government will learn new things with this case.”

The Edo State Ministry of Justice has not yet responded to Ogbankwa’s allegations.
