*Awards N1m Scholarship To LASU Best Graduating Student

Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, a member of the Board of Directors of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), has described the legal profession as a ministry and a calling by God, urging lawyers who want to last in the profession to remain one hundred percent uncompromising on ethics. He made the comment while welcoming new SANs.

Olanipekun made the remarks on Saturday at the 50th Anniversary Dinner of BOSAN held at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, a remarkable celebration of five decades of excellence at the Bar.

Speaking at the event, Chief Olanipekun emphasised the spiritual and ethical dimensions of the legal profession.

“Our profession is a ministry, it’s not a vocation. It’s not a question of orientation. It’s a calling by God. It’s also an organism. If you want to last, anyone who wants to last in the profession, must keep forever, hundred percent uncompromising to the ethics, to the ethics,” Olanipekun stated.

He also paid tribute to the progenitors of the profession, including the late Chief Frederick Rotimi Alade Williams, SAN, fondly called Papa Williams.

“We have our progenitors. Two names are mentioned to you, and we stand up for their lives. I walked very close to the late Papa Williams,” he added.

All Senior Advocates of Nigeria gathered in Lagos on Saturday to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of BOSAN and to formally welcome newly admitted members into the distinguished BOSAN family.

The event featured the formal welcome of newly conferred Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) for the 2024 and 2025 conferment years.

The distinguished gathering was graced by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun, GCON, and her husband, Mr. Akin Kekere-Ekun; the Chairman of BOSAN Leadership Committee, Mr. Paul Usoro, SAN; the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; alongside other eminent members and esteemed colleagues of BOSAN.

It was a truly memorable evening celebrating leadership, service, and the enduring legacy of the legal profession in Nigeria.

The Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) is a professional, non-governmental, and self-regulatory organization representing the interests of legal practitioners who have attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

It is governed by its own constitution and is not directly created by a specific statutory law, but it operates as a body representing holders of the SAN title, which is conferred under the Legal Practitioners Act.

At the event, Toheeb Omotayo Alimi, the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Law at Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2024/2025 academic session, was awarded the 2025 Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) Scholarship, valued at one million naira (₦1,000,000).

The scholarship, instituted by BOSAN, aims to elevate standards in legal education and professional practice in Nigeria. It recognises outstanding law students at both university and Nigerian Law School levels, promoting academic excellence, character, discipline, and professional integrity.

After a rigorous national selection process, Alimi emerged as one of the successful awardees, positioning him among Nigeria’s most promising emerging legal minds.

The scholarship will be disbursed in two phases: ₦500,000 during his final year at LASU and ₦500,000 during his attendance at the Nigerian Law School.

Beyond the financial award, BOSAN Scholars gain significant professional prestige, recognised for their merit and integrity across academic and legal circles.

The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, congratulated Alimi, noting that his achievement affirms LASU’s commitment to producing legal professionals of exceptional quality and ethics.

Alimi’s success not only brings honour to LASU but also marks him as a symbol of merit, discipline, and promise in Nigeria’s legal profession.
