Speaking to newsmen in Lagos after an event at the Pan-African University, on Monday, Dr. Abubakar Balarabe a Director of the Institute stated that “today’s legal, regulatory and business environments make training on competition and Consumer Affairs laws more important than ever. In the past few months the National Assembly of Nigeria in both the Senate and the House of Representatives have passed the first comprehensive Competition and Antitrust legislation in Nigeria. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, brings renewed focus on fair trading and ethical business practices in the Nigerian market place.” According to him “the Nigerian Competition legislation is very broad in scope and covers areas and conduct that are not very well defined or easily understood in Nigeria. Though Antitrust and competitions laws are being enforced worldwide it is relatively new and untested in Nigeria”. Speaking further he confirmed that the program which is billed for the last week of August 2017 will “provide an overview of Competition and Consumer Protection legislation and compliance requirements, gives a historical background to the Competition laws worldwide, explains current regulatory and enforcement focus in Europe, South Africa and North America and gives practical advice to practitioners on its implications for business”. ]]>
