The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, says the fight against corruption will succeed if if traditional institutions join the crusade.
He spoke during a courtesy call on the Emir of Zazzau, Shehu Idris at his palace in Zaria.
He said the visit was part of his commission’s preparation to open a new office in Kaduna with the aim of strengthening the operations of the commission. “We also want to appeal to traditional institutions to continue to assist the fight against corruption.
The respect that traditional leaders enjoy is enough to stop people from involving in corruption. This is a work that everybody is expected to join hand for us to achieve our goals.
“This visit is also to prepare ground for the northwest version of the role of women in the fight against corruption, which is coming up at the end of this month in Kaduna. Until every Nigerian becomes a corruption fighter, corruption would continue to thrive in Nigeria,” Magu said.
Earlier, Idris commended EFCC for its determination to rid Nigeria of corruption, urging the continuous adherence to the rule of law in the fight.
