*Accuses CAC Of Stopping Salaries Before Issuing Queries
*Demands Payment Of 2019 Areas And Allowing Eligible Staff To Write Promotion Exams

Industrial action is on the verge of being embarked upon by Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The Union had gravely expressed their dissatisfaction with the ways they are being allegedly treated unfairly, necessitating taking measures to immediately redress the situation.

This is contained in a notice of industrial action dated 18th day of December, 2020 signed by Chairman of AUPCTRE, CAC Chapter, Comrade Ibrahim Kiirfi.

The Union alleged that the leadership style of the Registrar General of the CAC, Mr. Garba Abubakar is one that is laced with “high-handedness and grave injustice”.

In addition, the Union noted that they are disgruntled because of “self-opinionated restrictions of vacancies on staff promotions against the recommendations of committee on organogram, unjustified barring of certain categories of staff from writing promotion examination against the recommendation of the committee on organogram, stoppage of all welfare proposals, hasty, draconian and unilateral decision-making leadership style, punishment of staff by stopping their salaries even before queries were issued during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as denial of earned 2019 promotion arrears,” among others.

Besides, it was added that the CAC RG needs to recall his earlier commitment through a pledge he made while assuming office in January, 2020, to operate “all-inclusive, staff-friendly, equitable and welfare-based administration,” and the Union added that “The Registrar General has enjoyed such a tremendous support and goodwill as evidently proven by such an unprecedented improvement in the commission’s productivity/revenue under his stewardship”.

However, the Union appealed to the management of the Commission, that to avert the looming strike, that as “earlier argued by the Board in December, 2019, Management should consider Principal Managers to Assistant Directors to Deputy Directors.

“Staff who were barred from writing earlier examinations should be rightly placed with the actual effective date they ought to have written the examination to ensure that seniority is maintained.”

In addition, the Union has demanded payment of 2019 promotion arrears amongst others thus:

“To pay the 2019 promotion arrears or recognise it as future liability via accrual.

“Setting up modality for the consideration of recommendation on the proposed welfare package as key motivator to the existing effort that produces enhanced revenue.

“Management should be honourable, realistic and true with its promises”.

Besides, the Union has asked the CAC management to allow all eligible staff to write promotion examination without restrictions or any form of exemptions.

TheNigeriaLawyer recalls that the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Alhaji Garba Abubakar had earlier revealed some of the welfare packages available for the staff of the CAC.

He disclosed this on 23rd day of December, 2020, during CAC Management/Staff interaction “that despite the challenges of Covid-19 Pandemic, the Commission under his stewardship had cleared over 5 Billion inherited Tax and Pension liabilities and so far paid over N2.6 Billion operating surplus to the Federal Government and still counting.”

“He unveiled a new Staff Health Insurance Scheme which he said was specially tailored to cover more Ailments and Interventions including Dialysis and Cesarean Operation which were hitherto uncovered adding that the Commission had paid upfront N200 Million in the Joint Shared system.

“Speaking on Staff Loans, the RG revealed that a N250 Million Revolving Fund with the capacity to grow to N1Billion in few years will take effect in January 2021 for the benefit of the CAC Staff.”
