The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly refuted claims by the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) that seized local government allocations were paid to APC chairmen.
In a statement on Sunday, Kola Olabisi, APC Director of Media and Information, clarified that the funds were deposited into the local government councils’ accounts and not into the personal accounts of any party officials.
Olabisi criticized NULGE, led by Comrade Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, for portraying itself as the interpreter of court judgments regarding delayed federal allocations to local council chairmen.
“We want to make it abundantly clear that it is not the duty of NULGE to interpret any court judgment,” Olabisi said. “The Court of Appeal judgment of February 10, 2025, which reinstated APC local government council chairmen and councillors, remains in force. There is no record that it has been appealed. It is also false that federal allocations were paid into any APC member’s account; the funds went directly into the local government councils’ accounts.”
The clarification comes in response to NULGE’s earlier assertion that the Federal Government improperly released six months of withheld local government allocations to sacked APC chairmen in the state.
Speaking in Osogbo, NULGE President Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe and other union leaders condemned the release of funds, describing it as an abuse of power by key federal officials, including the Minister of Finance, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Accountant-General of the Federation.
“We have reliable information that allocations for March to August 2025 were released into the accounts of court-sacked APC chairmen and councillors,” Ogungbangbe said, calling the move “unbelievable, bizarre, and unprecedented in public administration in Nigeria.”
He urged the Federal Government to respect the Constitution and judicial authorities, emphasizing that the matter is still pending before the Supreme Court. “This is supposed to be a democracy. We cannot work with politicians who have been removed by competent courts but are being imposed on our state by the Attorney-General,” he added.
