Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, FCIArb(UK), has extended a powerful message of solidarity to the leadership and members of the NBA Makurdi Branch on the occasion of their 2025 Annual Law Week.

In a goodwill message made available to the media, Akangbe commended the branch for its resilience and boldness in addressing the pressing realities of legal practice in Nigeria today. Themed “Law Practice in a Volatile Landscape: Evolving Trends and Coping Strategies,” the 2025 edition of the Law Week reflects on the challenges confronting the legal profession and the justice sector at large.

“This theme speaks directly to the time we live in—a time when faith in the justice system is shaken, when insecurity and the harassment of lawyers by security agents are sadly becoming normalized,” Akangbe stated.

He further decried the disregard for the Remuneration Order by some practitioners, which he said undermines the dignity of the legal profession. Despite these issues, he praised the Makurdi Branch for its bold stance in tackling them.

“I salute your courage. I salute your determination to confront these issues head-on. Law Week is not just about celebration—it is about reflection, strategy, and recommitment,” he emphasized.

Akangbe urged members of the NBA Makurdi Branch to remain steadfast, proactive, and united in defending the core values of the legal profession.

“I wish you all a successful Law Week,” he concluded.
