As the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF) kicks off its Annual Conference in Abuja, a powerful message of encouragement and purpose has come from Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, FCIArb (UK), former Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch.

In a goodwill message addressed to the Chairperson of the Conference Planning Committee, distinguished members, and delegates, Akangbe extended warm felicitations and lauded the Forum for championing a timely and critical cause under the theme: “From Promise to Action: Achieving Gender Parity for Lasting Change.”

Describing the theme as “timely, thoughtful, and necessary,” the Senior Advocate emphasized that gender parity must transcend slogans and evolve into resolute action. “It speaks to a call that must no longer be delayed, a promise that must now be fulfilled with resolute action and unwavering commitment,” he stated.

Akangbe underscored the vital role lawyers must play in fostering a just and equitable society, asserting that the legal profession has a responsibility to dismantle barriers to inclusion and to uplift the leadership and contributions of women. “As lawyers and custodians of justice, it falls on us to create spaces where the talents, leadership, and contributions of women are recognized, valued, and empowered,” he noted.

He also highlighted the importance of using the conference not only for dialogue but for strategizing and committing to actionable change. “This Conference offers a unique opportunity—not just to speak about change, but to strategize, collaborate, and drive meaningful action that will outlive our generation,” he said.

Akangbe commended the NBA Women Forum and the Conference Planning Committee for their courage and leadership in pushing the gender parity agenda. He expressed optimism that the conference would spark transformative conversations and lay the groundwork for lasting change.

“I wish you all a fruitful, impactful, and memorable Conference,” he concluded.
