Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has appealed to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to adopt proactive measures that will ease traffic congestion and ensure public safety during the ongoing repair works on major sections of the Lagos-Epe Expressway.

In a statement issued on Thursday from Lekki, Adegboruwa commended the Lagos State Government for its commitment to infrastructure development, particularly in the area of road construction.
He noted that while the progress on the Lagos-Epe Expressway has been commendable, the recently announced comprehensive repairs on its busiest sections could cause severe traffic disruptions if not properly managed.
“It is gratifying that the Lagos-Epe Expressway has progressed without stoppage. However, the commencement of comprehensive repairs on the main sections of the road requires drastic measures to ease the expected traffic congestion and the pains that people will go through,” he said.
The senior advocate proposed several measures to mitigate the impact of the repair works, including the deployment of permanent traffic officers at major points along the corridor, provision of emergency medical services for motorists and commuters, and collaboration between federal and state authorities to open the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as an alternative route.
He also urged the government to accelerate the construction of the Lekki Regional Road to decongest the expressway and to schedule major repair works and heavy equipment movement for late-night hours to minimize daytime traffic disruption.
“Given the peculiar terrain of the Eti-Osa area, government should consider more lasting road maintenance mechanisms that may involve either concrete or interlocking paving stones to achieve maximum efficiency and durability,” Adegboruwa added.
He emphasized that with the substantial revenue accruing to Lagos State from the federation account and internally generated revenue, finding a permanent solution to road construction and maintenance should not be difficult.
