Abuja-based lawyer, Bar Adaobi Alagwu, has firmly denied claims by former Chairman of the defunct Skye Bank Plc, Mr Tunde Ayeni, alleging that she is seeking an out-of-court settlement in the ongoing legal dispute between them. She described the claims as false, malicious, and a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.

Alagwu and Ayeni have been locked in a contentious legal battle following Ayeni’s denial of paternity of her daughter, a matter previously struck out by the FCT Customary Court in Dawaki for lack of jurisdiction.

The parties are also engaged in a separate property dispute before the FCT High Court in Gwagwalada. The case, initially scheduled for hearing on November 25, 2025, was adjourned to January 28, 2026, due to the court’s inability to sit.

In a statement released on Monday, Ayeni claimed that Alagwu had approached some of his friends and associates in an attempt to negotiate a private settlement. He also warned them against entertaining such discussions since the matter is already before the court.

However, in a sharply worded rebuttal issued on Sunday, Alagwu dismissed the allegations as fabricated and aimed at misleading the public.

She insisted that she has never initiated, authorised, or entertained any conversation directly or indirectly regarding an out-of-court resolution. She further stressed that no one has been appointed to negotiate or speak on her behalf.

Alagwu urged the public to disregard Ayeni’s claims in their entirety.

Full text of Barrister Alagwu’s statement:

“My attention has been drawn to publications alleging that I have made overtures directly or indirectly towards an out-of-court settlement.
This claim is entirely false.

“I have not initiated, authorised, encouraged, or pursued any form of settlement whether publicly or through so-called ‘back-door channels.’

“No such conversation has ever taken place, and no individual has been appointed to speak on my behalf regarding settlement.

“These reports are a misrepresentation of the facts and should be disregarded.

“I will not be engaging further outside the appropriate legal channels.”
