Venerable Edwin Achi, an Anglican priest, has reportedly died while in captivity, SaharaReporters has learned.

His wife, Sarah Achi, was kidnapped alongside him from their home in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025.

The couple’s abduction was first reported on October 29, 2025. Bandits had previously sent photographs of the couple to their family as proof of life while demanding a ransom of N600 million. The images reportedly showed the priest and his wife in a distressed state, with other captives tied in chains and appearing malnourished.

A source told SaharaReporters on Wednesday night that Achi, who served as Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Kaduna, had died in captivity.

In a related incident, bandits killed two police officers in Southern Kaduna. The attack occurred on a Friday evening inside the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa town, the administrative center of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

The spate of kidnappings and attacks in Kaduna State highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region.
