The Assistant Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kano Branch, Hadiza Nasir Ahmad, has refuted claims of disorderliness at the Federal High Court No. 3, Kano, during the hearing of Hon. Abdullahi Abbas & Ors v. Central Bank of Nigeria on March 4, 2025.

In a statement addressing the misleading reports published by Solace Magazine, she stated that the court proceedings were smooth and professional, contrary to allegations of tension and controversy.

According to Ahmad, Justice Amobeda maintained a calm and composed demeanor throughout the session, with discussions centering solely on the cause of action in the case. She described the Federal High Court No. 3 as a model of efficiency, equipped with modern technologies that facilitate seamless court proceedings.

Ahmad further clarified that Justice Amobeda did not make any blanket statements against NBA Kano but rather expressed disappointment with certain executives of the branch, whom he accused of allowing themselves to be used by political interests to undermine the judiciary.

She also condemned the growing trend of lawyers filing frivolous applications and misusing court proceedings for political gains. Instead of following due legal processes, some lawyers have allegedly resorted to media campaigns to cast aspersions on the judiciary.

The NBA official reiterated that when dissatisfied with a court ruling, the proper recourse is to appeal to the higher courts, not to launch media attacks. She emphasized the judiciary’s vital role in upholding democracy and called on legal practitioners to protect the integrity of the courts rather than being used as political tools.

Ahmad further noted that Justice Amobeda has demonstrated impartiality in past rulings, citing his recent judgment in favor of Usman Fari, the NBA Kano Chairman, against the Attorney General of Kano State, where the court awarded N50 million in damages against the state government.

She urged lawyers within the NBA Kano Branch to remain committed to ethical legal practice, ensuring that judicial officers receive the respect and protection they deserve.
