Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Edeh, the founder of Madonna University, a private institution in Nigeria, has made a controversial claim that female students who gain admission as virgins graduate while still maintaining their virginity. According to Edeh, the university takes measures to help preserve this standard.

In a video posted on social media, Edeh said this is because Madonna University is known for its commitment to moral discipline.

Speaking at a ceremony at the university on March 20th, Edeh stated, “Madonna is a University where there is no secret cult, molestation, exam malpractice, no bullying, zero tolerance for hard drugs and sexual immorality.

Edeh boasted that a lot of individuals from abroad looking for virgins to marry come to Madonna University.

“It is only in this university that is clearly maintained that girls who have entered the university as virgins graduate as virgins. You can enter our university as virgins and graduate as virgins,” Edeh said.

“Tell me any other university in the whole world that can maintain this. That is why people from London, America, England, Germany, when you meet them, they will say Father, we want to marry a girl who is a virgin. And they don’t tend to get that until they come to Madonna University.“

He explained that all the students of the school live on their campuses as they are not allowed to live off-campus for effective monitoring.

The Catholic cleric said issues related to cultism, molestation, examination malpractice and all other social vices, cannot be found in the school.

Edeh’s remarks have sparked debates and raised questions about the university’s policies and practices regarding students’ personal lives and choices. While some may view the claimed preservation of female students’ virginity as a laudable moral stance, others have expressed concerns about potential infringement on individual privacy and autonomy.

Critics have argued that such claims by educational institutions could promote unhealthy attitudes towards sexuality and place undue pressure on students. There are also concerns about the methods the university might employ to monitor and enforce such a policy, which could potentially violate personal boundaries and rights..

Founder in 1999, Madonna University has three campuses in Okija, Anambra State; Elele, Rivers State and Akpugo in Enugu State.
