The Ocholi Family and The Ocholi James Foundation have released a tribute to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of James Enojo Ocholi, SAN, former Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, his wife, Blessing Ocholi, and their son, Joshua Ocholi, who perished in a fatal car accident on March 6, 2016.

In a statement titled “In Loving Memory,” the family and foundation paid glowing tribute to the late minister, his wife and son.

“Today marks ten years since our nation and especially his family and friends  lost a distinguished legal luminary and dedicated public servant: James Enojo Ocholi (SAN). A brilliant lawyer, committed patriot and humble leader, he served Nigeria with integrity, intellect and compassion, embracing the call to public service at a time his country needed his steady counsel and wise judgment,” the tribute read.

The family described James Ocholi’s life as one marked by remarkable achievement.

“James’s life was marked by remarkable achievement  from his rise to the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria to his impactful roles in law, governance and national life. He carried himself with grace and dignity, trusted by colleagues across the political and professional spectrum. His keen mind, generous spirit, and tireless devotion to justice and the common good enriched our nation and inspired all who knew him,” the tribute stated.

The family also paid tribute to Blessing and Joshua Ocholi.

“Blessing Ocholi was a devoted partner, whose warmth, kindness and support stood at the heart of the family. Joshua, a promising young man whose presence lit every room he entered, embodied the hope and promise of a bright tomorrow,” the tribute said.

Blessing Ocholi was a Registrar at Salem University, Sokoto, while Joshua was 20 years old at the time of his death.

The family said the legacy of James, Blessing and Joshua endures.

“Though their lives were cut short, the legacy of James, Blessing and Joshua endures — in the countless lives they touched, the values they championed, and in the continuing work of The Ocholi James Foundation, established in his honour. Their spirit lives on in love that binds family and community, in service that uplifts nation, and in memory that never fades,” the tribute read.

The family urged Nigerians to remember:

  • A loving husband, father and friend;
  • A servant of the people, who believed deeply in Nigeria’s potential;
  • A family whose love and legacy will forever inspire us.

“Forever cherished. Forever remembered. Rest on in peace,” the tribute concluded.

James Enojo Ocholi, SAN, died in a fatal car accident on March 6, 2016, at the age of 55. The accident occurred at Kilometre 57 along the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway.

At the time of his death, he was serving as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and Employment in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
