The General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 82 Division of the Army, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Baba Abubakar, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Yusuf Buratai, formally declare the end of Exercise Egwu Ekek II. The ceremony took place on Saturday night at Sector 1 Tactical headquarters in Umuahia, the Abia State capital. It was accompanied by the traditional activation of a camp fire to formally signify the successful completion of the operation. A statement yesterday by the Deputy Director of Public Relations of Army’s 82 Division, Colonel Sagir Musa, said General Abubakar praised officers, soldiers and personnel of paramilitary organisations that collaborated , synergised and worked throughout the one month period of the operation. He said: “ The achievements recorded in the attainment of the mission, specific training objectives, improvement in peace and security, curtailing the menace of violent irredentist groups in the theatre of the e exercise is remarkable. “ Representative of Abia State governor , Emmanuel Nwabuko, expressed appreciation of the government and people of the state to the numerous achievements of Exercise Egwu Ekek II in sustaining peace, security and stability of the state. The governor’s aide recalled that the collaboration between the Army and the state dates back to 2010 and 2011 “when kidnappers, armed robbers and other hoodlums paralysed economic and social activities in the state”.]]>
