The Police authorities, on Thursday, declared that it was not aware of the purported clearance of Misau by PSC and if that happened, it would be unfortunate as the senator reportedly refused to appear before the panel inaugurated by the commission to look into the allegation of forgery levelled against him. The commission had, on Wednesday, cleared Misau of the allegation of forgery leveled against him by the police on his letter of retirement. This came just as the Chairman of the Commission, Mike Okiro, defended the action of the commission on the matter and confirmed that the retirement letter was actually issued by the commission based on the recommendation to that effect from the Force Headquarters. As the controversy rages on between the Police and the PSC, some protesters comprising women and youths under the umbrella of “Concerned Men and Women Association of Nigeria,” staged a peaceful protest in Abuja, on Thursday, in support of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, over the investigation being carried out against Misau on the authenticity of his letter of retirement. The protesters coordinated by the duo of Haiya Hadiza Isiaku, National Co-ordinator and Joel Bello, Media Co-ordinator, converged on the ‘Unity Fountain,’ Abuja, where they matched to PSC, the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, where a solidarity rally in support of the police was held and warned the commission to allow the police to perform its duties. The protesters with different placards, declared that the clearance issued to Misau was done in error based on available evidence and urged the Senate to hand over the senator to the Police authorities for proper investigation. The protesters were received at the commission by its secretary, Mr Musa Istifanus, who promised to convey their message to the chairman and others. The Force Publications Officer (FRPO), Jimoh Moshood, who spoke on the position of the police on the clearance of Misau by PSC, however, said that police was not aware of the development and that the senator was still under investigation, adding that he remained a deserter. Moshood advised the senator to report at his last duty post, Niger State Police, where he deserted the Force as DSP, while investigation into various pending disciplinary actions against him were still pending. The FPRO, who said that going through the record of service of the senator, it had been discovered that he lied on oath based on various affidavits he sworn to at his point of entry into the Force. Speaking on the matter, the chairman of PSC said that the commission cleared the senator since the letter was the authentic one issued by the commission. Okiro explained that under the law, the commission has the power of promotion, discipline and dismissal of all senior police officers except the IGP, adding that since it was discovered that the letter was issued by it based on the recommendations from the Force Headquarters, there was no reason not to clear him.]]>
