The illegal activities of the impostor was brought to an end after a complaint was made to the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit on July 27, 2017 by a female Kano resident. The resident was said to have contacted the PCRRU after picking a PCRRU leaflet she found on the ground a day before. The Head of the PCRRU, ACP Abayomi Shogunle, explained on Tuesday in Abuja that the leaflets were dropped over the city from a helicopter, adding that the flyers were in English, Hausa and Kanuri languages. Shogunle stated that the complainant had reported to the police that her son was arrested as a robbery suspect in the Kwana Hudu area of Kano and remanded in Kurmawa Prison by the court. According to Shogunle, the complainant had met the fake policeman, Mohammed, in court where he collected N100,000 from her on the promise that he would release the complainant’s son, which he failed to do. Shogunle said, “The case was immediately registered and the matter referred to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State for investigation and report. “The said Mohammed was arrested and it was discovered that he is not a police officer or court official but an impostor who goes around courts in the Kano metropolis, pretending to be a police officer and a court worker.” The ACP said the suspect confessed to the crime, while the N100,000 he obtained from the complainant had been recovered. “The money has since been returned to the complainant and Yakasai has also been charged to court for prosecution accordingly and remanded in prison custody,” he explained. Shogunle advised the public against paying for bail, stressing that it is free. “We urge members of the public to immediately report any demand for bribe to the PCRRU, which is available 24/7 via telephones, emails and social media platforms,” he added.]]>
