The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has clarified the meaning of the “Not Admitted,” “Admission in Progress” and “Admitted” statuses displayed on candidates’ Central Admissions Processing System, warning that an “Admission in Progress” notification does not amount to a final offer.

JAMB gave the clarification in an explainer video shared on Thursday as institutions continue their admission processes.
According to the Board, a “Not Admitted” status simply means that a candidate has not yet been offered admission, but it does not necessarily mean that the candidate will ultimately be denied admission.
“This simply means you’ve not been offered admission yet. However, it does not necessarily mean you will not be admitted,” JAMB explained.
The Board therefore advised candidates whose CAPS still shows “Not Admitted” to continue checking the platform for updates as the process progresses.
JAMB also explained that “Admission in Progress” may mean that an institution’s admission officer has proposed a candidate for admission but is still awaiting the recommendation of the head of the institution.
“This means your institution’s admission officer has proposed you for admission, but awaiting the head of institution’s recommendation,” the Board said.
It added that the same status may also appear where the head of an institution has recommended a candidate but the offer is still awaiting JAMB’s approval or disapproval.
The Board, however, cautioned candidates against interpreting the status as confirmation that admission has been secured.
“Please note that ‘Admission in Progress’ does not mean automatic admission,” JAMB said.
It explained that a recommended admission could still be rejected if the candidate fails to meet the applicable requirements.
“This is because the recommended offer could still be disapproved by the Board if you don’t meet the prerequisite requirements,” it stated.
JAMB said a candidate’s status changes to “Admitted” only after the Board has formally approved the admission offer.
“This is the point you get the message, ‘CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION’,” it said.
At that stage, the candidate will be able to either accept or reject the admission offer through CAPS.
The Board further explained that the status displayed on a candidate’s CAPS may continue to change as the admission process moves through different stages.
“Remember, your CAPS status will keep changing as the admission process continues until the final stage where you print your admission letter,” JAMB said.
It therefore urged candidates to continue monitoring their CAPS and rely on JAMB’s official channels for verified information concerning the admission process.
