The Federal Government has fully automated the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials, ending the requirement for applicants to visit the Federal Ministry of Education physically for certificate verification.

The ministry announced that all applications would be processed exclusively through its official ESSVerify portal as part of efforts to improve transparency, protect the integrity of academic records and reduce delays associated with the former manual system.
Applicants seeking the authentication or evaluation of academic certificates are required to create an account on the portal and upload the relevant documents electronically.
The Federal Ministry of Education stressed that applicants no longer needed to visit its offices for physical verification because the entire process, from application and submission of documents to payment and status tracking, had been digitised.
Applicants requiring transcript verification must contact the university, polytechnic or college of education that awarded the qualification and request that the institution send the transcript directly to the ministry from its official institutional email address.
The ministry said applicants should not submit their transcripts personally, explaining that direct transmission by awarding institutions would strengthen the security and credibility of the verification process.
The digital platform also allows employers, educational institutions and other authorised organisations to verify the authenticity of certificates presented by employees, applicants, interns and students.
According to the ministry, the reform forms part of the Federal Government’s wider digital transformation agenda and its commitment to using technology to improve public service delivery and data management.
The automated system is expected to simplify application procedures, reduce processing time and limit opportunities for manipulation or the presentation of forged academic documents.
Applicants are required to visit **essverify.education.gov.ng**, register an account, provide the requested personal information and upload clear copies of their academic credentials and other supporting documents.
They can subsequently monitor the progress of their applications through their online dashboards without travelling to the ministry’s offices or making repeated physical enquiries.
The ministry advised applicants to comply strictly with the guidelines to avoid delays in processing their requests.
