Baba Alokolaro has emerged as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law, NBA-SBL, following the Section’s 2026 Annual General Meeting held in Port Harcourt on August 27, 2026.

His emergence marked the end of the two-year tenure of Mrs. Ozofu ’Latunde Ogiemudia, who served as Chairperson from 2024 to 2026.

The AGM also witnessed the inauguration of the NBA-SBL 2026–2028 Executive Committee, ushering in a new leadership team for the Section.

In his remarks, Alokolaro pledged to build on the institutional projects, templates and values established by previous administrations, stressing that his leadership would prioritise continuity rather than beginning afresh.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Section to review the achievements of the outgoing administration and consider the direction of the new leadership.

During Ogiemudia’s tenure, NBA-SBL membership grew from 5,673 to 7,800, while its subject-matter committees expanded to 26.

The Section also recorded increased policy engagement, stronger international partnerships, expanded professional development programmes and the organisation of major conferences during the 2024–2026 period.

At the AGM, former NBA-SBL Chairs Ayuli Jemide and Dr. Adeoye Adefulu were inducted as Honorary Life Members of the Section.

The meeting also approved CPA Partners as the Section’s new external auditors and considered recommendations aimed at strengthening the conduct of future elections.

The event was attended by the foundation Chairman of NBA-SBL, Mr. George Etomi, as well as HRH Sir David Serena-Dokubo Spiff, a founding Council member of the Section and Chief Executive Partner of Serenity Legal Union & Partners, Port Harcourt.

The transition brings Ogiemudia’s administration to a close while handing responsibility for the next phase of the Section’s institutional development to Alokolaro and the newly inaugurated executive committee.
