Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate closure of the secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on Sales of Federal Government Houses in the FCT and approved the creation of a new division to take over its functions.

The FCT Administration disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

According to the statement, the new division will operate under the Department of Land Administration and will henceforth handle all matters relating to the sale of Federal Government houses in the Federal Capital Territory.

“Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed that the Secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on Sales of Federal Government Houses (SFGH) in the Federal Capital Territory be closed down with immediate effect,” the statement said.

It added that Wike had also approved the establishment of a division in the Department of Land Administration to assume the responsibilities previously handled by the defunct committee.

The FCT Administration explained that although the Ad-hoc Committee had completed its assignment and was dissolved, its secretariat had remained operational to address outstanding issues arising from the committee’s activities.

With the latest directive, however, the secretariat has now been formally shut down, while all pending and future matters relating to the sale of Federal Government houses in the FCT are to be handled by the Department of Land Administration.

“With the formal closure of the secretariat, the general public is enjoined to henceforth approach the Department of Land Administration on all issues relating to sale of Federal Government Houses in the FCT,” the statement said.

The FCT Administration also warned members of the public against dealing with individuals who may continue to present themselves as staff, officers or members of the defunct committee or its secretariat.

It urged residents to be vigilant against fraudsters seeking to take advantage of the transition.

“Members of the public are also urged to be mindful of the antics and activities of fraudsters who parade themselves as staff, officers and members of the defunct Ad-Hoc Committee/Secretariat on SFGH as the committee and secretariat no longer exist,” the statement added.
