Obra Legal recently hosted Dr. Nwachukwu Egbunike and Chikwado Edeh in a visit that brought together reflections on legacy, learning, culture and the broader formation of lawyers beyond the courtroom.

The visit began with a meeting between Dr. Egbunike and the firm’s partners, during which discussions centred on the life and enduring legacy of Iyom A. J. Offiah, SAN.
The conversation reflected on her values, vision and impact, as well as the importance of preserving legacies that continue to inspire generations within and beyond the legal profession.

He spoke on the importance of seeing the world, appreciating beauty and allowing different cultures and experiences to shape one’s thinking.
One of the most memorable parts of the conversation came from his reflection on Norway, a country he said he had never visited physically but had come to understand meaningfully through books.
According to him, reading remains one of the greatest ways to travel, as books can open the mind to new places, fresh perspectives and unfamiliar ways of life long before a passport is stamped.
The discussion also touched on the demanding nature of legal practice and the challenge many lawyers face in finding time for travel, leisure and personal interests.
Participants were reminded that rest is not merely a state of doing nothing, but a conscious shift into activities that restore, refresh and renew the mind.
Whether through reading, travelling, engaging with art or embracing new experiences, the session emphasised that leisure enriches perspective, sparks creativity and often becomes a valuable point of connection in both personal and professional life.
By the end of the interaction, one message stood out clearly: the making of an exceptional lawyer does not end with mastering the law. It is enriched by curiosity, meaningful experiences and a willingness to continue learning from the world.
The day’s engagements offered a balance between reflection on the power of legacy and a call to lifelong learning and discovery.
