President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the former Secretary and members of the Presidential Implementation Committee on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties to immediately stop parading themselves as representatives or agents of the Federal Government.

The Presidency said the committee had ceased to exist with effect from November 5, 2025, following the President’s approval for its dissolution.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said Tinubu had specifically directed the erstwhile Secretary of the committee, B. S. Dutsin-Ma, to stop acting on behalf of the dissolved committee or the Federal Government on any matter connected with its former mandate.

According to the statement, all matters relating to the activities of the dissolved committee will now be coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.

The Presidency explained that the dissolution takes effect retrospectively from November 5, 2025, the date Tinubu directed that the Attorney General should assume responsibility for all matters concerning the committee.

The Presidential Implementation Committee was established in 2000 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to oversee the privatisation, sale and lease of Federal Government landed assets under the government’s monetisation policy.

The committee was chaired by the then Minister of Housing and had representatives from the Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health and Agriculture, as well as the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement added that Professor P. T. Ahire, then a Deputy Director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, served as the pioneer secretary of the committee, while other members were drawn from both the public and private sectors.

The Presidency also recalled that on March 22, 2001, the Federal Executive Council approved the establishment of a Panel of Inquiry to produce a White Paper to guide the implementation of recommendations arising from the committee’s work.

The panel reportedly spent 21 months before submitting its report.

However, the Federal Government said a review of the committee’s operations showed that its activities had gone beyond its original mandate, resulting in multiple litigations across the country.

The Presidency said the continued existence of the committee was no longer justified, leading to Tinubu’s decision to dissolve it and transfer all related responsibilities to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

It added that henceforth, all matters concerning the alienation of Federal Government properties will be handled exclusively under the coordination of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
