*Says She Is Reaching Out to Members and Stakeholders Ahead of End-of-August Swearing-In

The President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has assured members of the association that she will work with them and other stakeholders to mend divisions and restore unity ahead of her swearing-in at the end of August, stating that she has already begun reaching out across the profession and intends to address the grievances that have followed her emergence.
She spoke to State House correspondents on Tuesday after a courtesy call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
The encounter with correspondents opened on a light note.
Welcomed with the greeting, “Good to have you in the State House, Madam President,” and then asked, “Is it a small P or a big P?”, the President-elect replied: “You tell me. I’m in the house of the big P.”
Asked why the meeting held and what was said on both sides, Badejo-Okusanya gave a summary of the conversation.
“He congratulated me on the victory. We talked about the challenges of electronic voting and technology, and we spoke about the ways in which we can continue to improve on our processes. It was very encouraging,” she stated.
The disclosure that electronic voting and technology formed part of the discussion is significant, given that the electronic voting platform used in the July 18 election has been at the centre of the controversy that followed the poll.
Pressed on what she is doing about house-cleaning and peacemaking, given the anger among members over the process that produced her, the President-elect pointed to the window before her inauguration.

“My swearing-in is not until the end of August. In the meantime, I continue to reach out to members, to stakeholders, so that we can work together to improve things, to heal the hurt anyone has, and to just continue to ensure that we do things to make sure that the NBA continues to fulfil its role to society,” she stated.
She closed with a commitment framed in unqualified terms.
“Everything that needs to be done, I can assure members and the public that I will do. We’ll make sure that we unite ourselves. We’ll make sure that we put our house in order,” Badejo-Okusanya stated.
The President-elect reiterated her commitment to reconciliation and institutional stability, assuring lawyers and the wider public that her administration would prioritise unity within the association and effective governance.
She described the exchange with the President as constructive, noting a shared interest in improving the NBA’s electoral processes.
Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, is scheduled to be sworn in as President of the Nigerian Bar Association at the end of August.
