The National Officers Election Appeals Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association has announced the official closure of the period allowed for filing petitions challenging the outcome of the just concluded 2026 NBA National Officers Election.

In a notice dated July 28, 2026, the Committee said the deadline for presenting election petitions expired on July 27, 2026, in line with the provisions of the NBA Constitution, 2015, as amended in 2025, and the approved guidelines governing the Association’s post-election process.
The Committee, also known as the NBA-NOEAC, notified all candidates in the election that no petition would be accepted after the expiration of the stipulated deadline.
According to the notice, the Committee received a total of three petitions within the constitutionally prescribed period.
The Committee stated that all petitions filed within time would be heard and determined within 28 days from the date of receipt of the petitions, in accordance with the NBA Constitution and the applicable rules of procedure.
It also clarified that its earlier notice on the timeframe for the hearing and determination of petitions stood corrected.
The notice read in part: “Pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association, 2015 (as amended in 2025), as well as the approved guidelines governing the post-election process, we wish to inform all candidates in the just concluded National Officers Election of the Nigerian Bar Association that the time allowed for the presentation of petitions before the National Officers Election Appeals Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association officially closed on the 27th day of July, 2026.”
It added: “Take notice that the National Officers Election Appeals Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association will no longer accept any petitions beyond the aforementioned deadline.”
The Committee further stated that, as of the time of publication of the notice, only three petitions had been received.
“All petitions received within the prescribed period will be heard and determined within twenty-eight days from the date of the receipt of the petitions, in keeping with the provisions of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association, 2015 (as amended in 2025), as well as the applicable rules of procedure. Our previous notice on the time frame for the hearing and determination of petitions stands corrected,” the notice stated.
The Committee appealed for the cooperation of all parties involved in the post-election process.
The notice was signed by Adizua Chu-Chu Okoroafor, SAN, FBR, Chairman of the Committee, and Stella Omoikhefe Chidozie, Esq, Secretary.
