Retired High Court judge, Justice (Prof.) Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye, has paid glowing tribute to former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, OFR, CFR, describing him as a legal institution, a legal colossus and a bridge between generations as he marked the golden jubilee of his call to the Nigerian Bar.

In a tribute commemorating Olanipekun’s 50 years in legal practice, Justice Omolaye-Ajileye said the senior advocate’s remarkable career had been defined by uncommon distinction, intellectual excellence, courageous leadership and an unwavering commitment to the highest ideals of the legal profession.

According to the retired jurist, Olanipekun’s contributions to the profession extend beyond his celebrated courtroom victories, leadership positions and numerous honours to an enduring legacy of mentoring and inspiring generations of lawyers.

“It is with profound admiration, immense gratitude and a deep sense of privilege that I join family members, friends, colleagues, members of the Bench and Bar, and countless admirers of Chief Wole Olanipekun across Nigeria and beyond in celebrating him on the historic occasion of the golden jubilee of his call to the Nigerian Bar,” he said.

Justice Omolaye-Ajileye described five decades of uninterrupted legal practice as a rare accomplishment worthy of celebration, noting that Olanipekun had written his name indelibly in Nigeria’s legal history through exceptional advocacy, intellectual depth, scholarship and fidelity to the noblest traditions of the profession.

“Chief Wole Olanipekun is not merely an accomplished legal practitioner; he is an institution, a legal colossus, a bridge between generations and a shining embodiment of the finest ideals of the legal profession,” he stated.

The retired judge said Olanipekun’s courtroom brilliance, formidable command of the law, eloquence, depth of legal reasoning and mastery of advocacy had earned him widespread respect within and outside Nigeria.

Describing himself as one of the beneficiaries of Olanipekun’s mentorship, Justice Omolaye-Ajileye said the legal luminary’s guidance went beyond legal practice and extended to the values of integrity, humility, diligence, courage, compassion and service to humanity.

“I count myself exceptionally fortunate and deeply honoured to have Chief Wole Olanipekun as my mentor. Through his words, conduct, discipline, generosity and personal example, he has taught me that true greatness is founded upon integrity, humility, diligence, courage, compassion and service to humanity,” he said.

The retired jurist observed that Olanipekun’s life exemplified the principle that success derived its greatest meaning when it created opportunities for others.

He stressed that professional accomplishment must always be accompanied by character, generosity and a commitment to advancing society.

Justice Omolaye-Ajileye commended the former NBA President for consistently deploying his experience, influence and resources to strengthen the legal profession, promote education, encourage young lawyers and support worthy causes.

According to him, Olanipekun had demonstrated throughout his career that the law was not merely an instrument for winning cases or attaining personal recognition, but a noble calling through which justice could be defended, society protected, institutions strengthened and human dignity preserved.

The retired judge said the celebration of Olanipekun’s golden jubilee should not be limited to the landmark cases he had argued, the offices he had occupied or the honours he had received.

He said equal recognition should be given to the countless lives he had transformed, the legal careers he had shaped and the institutions he had strengthened over the past five decades.

Justice Omolaye-Ajileye expressed confidence that Olanipekun’s legacy would continue to endure through generations of lawyers who had benefited from his wisdom, generosity, encouragement and exemplary leadership.

He also praised the senior advocate’s leadership philosophy, saying Olanipekun had shown that genuine leadership was measured not by the offices a person occupied but by the positive impact made on individuals, institutions and society.

“Your life and career remain powerful testimonies to the rewards of hard work, professional discipline, courage of conviction and commitment to justice,” he stated.

Congratulating Olanipekun on attaining the milestone, Justice Omolaye-Ajileye described him as a distinguished advocate, eminent leader of the Bar, generous mentor, legal statesman and outstanding national figure whose five decades of service constituted a golden chapter in the history of the Nigerian legal profession.

He prayed for continued strength, sound health and greater fulfilment for the senior advocate, expressing confidence that his legacy of excellence, integrity, mentorship and service would continue to inspire future generations of lawyers.

“Congratulations, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, OFR, CFR, on your fifty remarkable years of distinguished service at the Nigerian Bar, to Nigeria and humanity. It is a profound honour to celebrate you and an even greater privilege to call you my mentor,” the retired judge said.
