Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has alleged that $700 was stolen from her wallet while Nigeria’s squad were preparing for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Casablanca, Morocco.

The AFC Toronto forward made the allegation in a series of posts on her Snapchat account, claiming that several of her teammates also had money stolen from their wallets while they were away from their rooms at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca.

Okoronkwo initially said $500 had been taken from her wallet before later correcting the figure after recounting her money.

“This hotel Marriott in Casablanca just stole about a lot of people’s money from their wallet! They just stole 500 USD from me!! They stole couple of dollars from my teammate,” she wrote.

She later updated the amount, saying, “Guys, I did my calculations wrong. They actually stole $700, not $500 USD.”

The Super Falcons forward subsequently alleged that members of the hotel’s housekeeping staff were responsible for the missing money.

“The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited while we weren’t in the room to clean and steal the money,” she claimed.

Okoronkwo also said the players confronted hotel staff over the alleged theft but were dissatisfied with the response they received.

“We started talking to them and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful,” she added.

Despite the off-field distraction, the Super Falcons continued their preparations for the tournament and secured a 2-1 victory over Tanzania in a pre-tournament friendly on Thursday, with Okoronkwo scoring the winning goal.

Nigeria, coached by Justine Madugu, will begin their WAFCON campaign against Malawi on Tuesday at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, before facing Zambia and Egypt in Group C.

The Super Falcons, who are record 10-time African champions, are seeking to win a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
