The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators is set to hold a training programme on Cultural Dilemmas in Negotiation and Mediation, aimed at equipping mediators and negotiators with the skills needed to manage cultural differences in dispute resolution.

The programme, which will attract 10 Continuing Professional Development Units, is scheduled to hold on July 30, 2026, via Zoom, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to the organisers, cultural differences can significantly affect negotiation and mediation sessions, particularly where the issues in dispute are contentious. They noted that most people are influenced by cultural practices, and although such practices may evolve over time, they cannot be easily denied or erased.

The organisers explained that where cultural elements arise in a dispute, a mediator’s ability to understand, respect and properly manage divergent cultural views is critical to achieving a resolution acceptable to all parties.

They further stated that for mediators to provide mutually acceptable solutions, they must develop the necessary skills and awareness to identify the cultural biases of disputing parties and propose solutions that are sensitive to cultural realities.

The course fee is ₦50,000 for members and ₦70,000 for non-members.
