Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has inaugurated an internal road network, a remodelled Faculty of Law complex, student hostels and four other capital projects at the University of Ilesa as part of efforts to improve teaching, learning and research at the institution.

The governor said the projects reflected his administration’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure in state-owned tertiary institutions and creating a conducive academic environment for students and lecturers.

Speaking during the inauguration, Adeleke expressed satisfaction with the rapid development recorded by the university within a short period of its establishment.

He commended the institution’s management and the Ilesa community for supporting its growth and helping it secure a place within Nigeria’s university system.

“Within so short a period, I am proud that the university has taken its rightful place within the Nigerian university system,” the governor said.

Adeleke said his administration moved the institution beyond what he described as an “audio pronouncement” by the previous government by enacting a state law that formally established the university and provided a legal framework for its administration and governance.

He added that the government facilitated the accreditation of several academic programmes and appointed experienced administrators to manage the institution.

“From the audio pronouncement by the previous administration, our government enacted a state law establishing the university and providing a framework for its governance. We secured accreditation for several courses. With strong political will, we appointed world-class administrators to manage the university,” he said.

The projects inaugurated by the governor included the remodelled Faculty of Law complex, a health building, a reconstructed internal road network, new student hostel buildings, a female medical hostel and the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences building.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, praised Adeleke for supporting the institution’s expansion and academic development.

Asaolu disclosed that the university had grown to 12 faculties, one College of Health Sciences, 110 academic programmes and a student population of more than 15,000.

He said the projects would provide additional facilities for academic activities, healthcare training, student accommodation and the movement of staff and students within the campus.

The Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Gbenga Onigbogi, also described the projects as landmark interventions that would improve teaching and practical training across the institution’s academic programmes.

Onigbogi expressed confidence that the new facilities would enhance the university’s capacity to deliver quality education and support its continued growth.
