The Practical Training Academy has announced a collaboration with leading United States law firm, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, for a two-day intensive training on Entertainment Law for Nigerian lawyers.

The training is designed to equip legal practitioners with practical knowledge in key areas of the entertainment industry, including music rights, financing and monetisation, entertainment financing, film and television law.

Participants are expected to learn from internationally recognised facilitators, including Rory Wellever and Lauren Epstein.

The initiative comes at a time when Nigeria’s creative economy is attracting growing global attention, with Afrobeats, Nollywood and other entertainment sectors gaining wider international recognition.

Over the last decade, Nigerian artists, producers, filmmakers and entertainers have continued to break global barriers, secure international partnerships and influence mainstream culture across continents.

This growth has also increased the complexity of commercial transactions within the sector, including intellectual property rights, royalties, licensing, distribution, endorsements, investments and cross-border collaborations.

As the entertainment ecosystem expands, there is a rising demand for lawyers with specialised knowledge of entertainment law to advise creatives, investors, production companies, record labels, streaming platforms and other stakeholders.

Experts say legal practitioners who understand music rights, entertainment financing and media transactions will play a major role in protecting creative assets and supporting the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Speaking on the initiative, the convener of TPTA, Tobenna Erojikwe, said the academy remains committed to providing practical and world-class legal education opportunities to Nigerian lawyers at no cost.

He said the programme is part of efforts to bridge the knowledge gap in emerging and commercially relevant areas of legal practice.

The collaboration with Akin Gump is expected to further position Nigerian lawyers to participate effectively in the increasingly global entertainment and media market.

The training is open to legal practitioners interested in developing expertise in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the global economy.
