The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Wednesday, presented cheques worth ₦2,435,421,584.11 to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The presentation, held in Abuja, was carried out under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme.

Disu said the disbursement covered both outstanding and current policy years, including 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2024/2025, and 2025/2026.

He described the event as his first official cheque presentation to families of deceased officers since assuming office as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, noting that personnel welfare remains a top priority of his administration.

According to him, the disbursement reflects the Force’s commitment to supporting families of officers who died in active service, as well as settling insurance obligations that had remained unpaid for years.

The police chief stated that the exercise goes beyond financial support, describing it as a solemn recognition of the courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

He extended condolences to widows, children, parents, and relatives of the fallen officers, assuring them that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by them.

Disu also reaffirmed that under his leadership, the Force would strengthen its welfare system, improve administrative efficiency, and eliminate delays in claims processing to ensure timely and transparent delivery of benefits.

He further disclosed plans to deploy modern technology to enhance record management, streamline claims processing, and promote accountability in the administration of welfare services across the Force.
