President Approves Additional Equipment, Operational Support; Directs Security Chiefs To Relocate To Maiduguri, Emergency Agencies To Provide Care For Injured; “Nigeria Will Not Succumb To Fear”

President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the people of Borno State following the recent terrorist attacks in Maiduguri, describing the incidents as desperate attempts by insurgents to instil fear.

In a statement on X on Tuesday, the President expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended sympathy to the injured and affected families, assuring residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring security.

“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” Tinubu said.

He stated that the attacks were a sign of increased pressure on terrorist groups by Nigerian security forces.

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies,” he added.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to intensify operations against insurgents across the country.

“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be,” he said.

Tinubu also commended security operatives for repelling coordinated attacks on military positions in the state, describing their response as courageous.

“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state,” he said.

He further described the incidents as “desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups,” adding that security forces would “curtail and put them down.”

The President disclosed that additional support had been approved to strengthen ongoing operations.

“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” he stated.

Tinubu added that he had directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations, while emergency agencies had been mobilised to assist victims.

“I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he said.

He stressed that terrorists would not find safe haven anywhere in the country.

“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President added.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has raised the alarm over the possible deployment of multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, urging residents to avoid crowded areas.

The warning followed Monday’s coordinated attacks which reportedly claimed 23 lives and left 108 others injured.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Media Information Officer of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, said the attacks targeted crowded locations in a bid to inflict mass casualties and create panic.

He identified the affected areas as the Post Office vicinity, Monday Market axis, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Suspected suicide bombers struck the same locations in Maiduguri on Monday evening.

The Borno State Police Command also confirmed the attacks, noting that investigations were ongoing to determine the full circumstances.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said security operatives swiftly secured the affected areas.

“The scenes were immediately secured, cordoned off, and subjected to thorough sweep operations by Police Explosive Ordnance (EOD) Unit Base 13 Maiduguri to rule out the presence of any additional threats,” he said.

Authorities have continued to urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as efforts to prevent further attacks intensify.
